SOON AS CONTEST STARTED THUNDERSTORMS MOVED IN AND LASTED DURING MOST OF THE CONTEST. HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO SHUT DOWN AND DISCONNECT ANTENNAS.K2DFC

I HAD ORIGINALLY PLANNED TO OPERATE FROM MY CABIN ROSC BUT I GOTTHE ITCH TO DO A ROVER OPERATION FRIDAY MORNING BEFORE THECONTEST STARTED. IN THE PAST I HAD DONE A FEW ROVER STYLEOPERATIONS IN MIQP BEFORE IT WAS A CATEGORY IN MIQP, SO I HAD ASTATION ALREADY ALL SET UP TO GO.MADE 143 QSOS IN 2 1/2 HOURS. CONDX ON 40M SEEMED DECENT, NOTGREAT BUT DECENT. I HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY VOICE-KEYER AND MYHEADPHONES BROKE WHILE THERE. I LOST AN EXTRA HOUR OF OPERATINGTIME STOPPING TO EAT AND BUY A CHEAP SET OF HEADPHONES IN MY NEXTCOUNTY WHICH WAS WEXF.FLAT WHILE I WAS THERE AND I ONLY MADE 79 QSOS. I DIDN’T WORKWEXF WHILE I WAS THERE BUT WORKED IT IN THE THREE OTHER COUNTIESI WAS IN, GO FIGURE. AFTER TWO AND A HALF HOURS I PACKED UP ANDHEADED FOR MISS. I SHOULD HAVE LEFT A HALF HOUR SOONER. THECOMMUTE FROM MY OPERATING SPOT IN WEXF TO MY MISS SPOT IS THELONGEST OF THE TRIP.GETTING NEAR SUNSET, 40 WAS IN BETTER SHAPE AND PEOPLE WERESTARTING TO SHOW UP ON 80M. I MADE 163 QSOS IN ABOUT 2 HOURSWHILE IN MISS, THE MOST OF THE TRIP. AT 10PM I STARTED TEARINGDOWN TO MOVE TO ROSC, MY LAST COUNTY FOR THE TRIP.GOT ON THE AIR WITH AN HOUR TO GO. I WAS PRETTY DISAPPOINTED BYHOW BAD THE BAND CONDX WERE BY THEN AND IT SEEMED LIKE THE QRNCHASED NEARLY EVERYONE OFF. I ONLY MADE 43 QSOS IN ROSC BEFORETHE CONTEST ENDED.TUNER.WAS TO SETUP AND TAKE DOWN. IT SEEMED TO TX/RX WELL ENOUGH FORWHAT I WAS USING IT FOR.ISSUES WITH MY VOICE-KEYER SETUP, IT JUST NEVER SEEMS TO WORKPROPERLY WHEN I DO A ROVER OPERATION. I CAN ONLY OPERATE ABOUT ANHOUR ON PHONE BEFORE MY VOICE GIVES OUT FROM CALLING CQ.STILL AMAZED AT THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE THINK I’M A “DUPE” EVENTHOUGH I’VE CHANGED COUNTIES AND I’M FAIR GAME AGAIN.WAS BEAUTIFUL FOR AN APRIL DAY IN MICHIGAN AND IT MADE SETUP ANDTEAR DOWN MUCH EASIER THAN IT COULD HAVE BEEN. I SAW LOTS OF DEERAND TURKEYS DURING MY TRIP.AND ASK WHAT I WAS DOING EVEN THOUGH I WAS SET UP IN PUBLICPARKS. I DID GET A DOUBLE TAKE FROM SOME GUY DRIVING A SUV WITH AGEORGIA PLATE WHILE IN MANI BUT THAT WAS ABOUT IT.LIKE PARTICIPATION WAS DOWN THIS YEAR AND THE BAND CONDX WEREKIND OF “MEH” AT BEST. I ENDED UP WITH 51 MICHIGAN COUNTIES AND41 W/VE MULTS.K8MM
