Club Competition

The 2007 MiQP Club Competition saw record level of activity and some close finishes for the top spot.  A total of 17 in-state (an MiQP record) and 11 out-of-state clubs were attributed with two or more scores for their aggregate totals.  The in-state competition saw the second and third largest club scores ever submitted.

The name of a first-time club winner appears at the top of the In-State Club Competition scoreboard, and that club is the Southeastern Michigan DX Association.  SEMDXA has been near the top of the Club Competition for the past several years and was third in 2006.  Their scores have largely been based on the K8MQP multis that count many SEMDXers on its operating team.  But this year SEMDXA members were also manning the #2 rover multi-op, the #2 SOLP entry and the #6 multi-multi, in addition to some other single-op scores.  The SEMDXA total of 847,267 points for 2007 is the second largest club score in MiQP history.

The second place club, the Adrian Amateur Radio Club, surpassed their winning score from 2006 by more than 63%, but still had to settle for second place behind SEMDXA.  The Adrian score is also based largely on a large multi-multi score (K8XXX), but they also had help from the #3 SOHP entry and the #7 multi-multi as well as several smaller scores.  Adrian is the club which holds the record in the MiQP club competition with over one million points (the only time it's ever been done).  Their 2007 total of 708,115 points is the third largest club total ever recorded.

Moving up from their fifth place finish in 2007 was the Eastern Michigan Amateur Radio Club with 297,785 points.  EMARC benefited from the K8C special-call multi-multi (starting to see a trend here?) and had only one other entry.  Still, they finished with a clear lead over the fourth place club.

Among the out-of-state clubs, the Florida Contest Group stepped up their game from their third place finish in 2006 to finish first in 2007.  To do it, they combined K9OM's Eastern Region third place score with five other single op scores to take the top spot.

In second place is a name new to the top box: the Oklahoma DX Association which only had two entries, but one of those was K5YAA's winning Eastern Region score, and that was good enough to edge out third place.

In third place is last year's winner, the South East Contest Club.  (Essentially, the SECC and FCG clubs flip-flopped their positions from last year).  KU8E's second place Eastern Region score and two other scores allowed them to edge out the fourth place club.

Remember that for the MiQP Club Competition it takes at least two scores to count as a Combined Club entry.  There were a lot of big individual scores that went “orphaned” and did not count for any club because they were the only one.

Also, scores for an in-state club must be made from Michigan, and scores for an out-of-state club must be made from outside of Michigan.
